Monthly Caregiver Empowerment & Support Group
Our monthly support group is the heart of Autism Urban Connections. It is a dedicated space where Pittsburgh families can breathe, connect, and realize they are not alone. We focus on the "lived experience"—providing a judgment-free zone to share struggles, celebrate wins, and trade tips on navigating local systems.
What to Expect
- Peer Connection: Talk with other parents and caregivers who are walking the same path in our urban communities.
- Expert Guest Speakers: We regularly host therapists, advocates, and representatives from agencies like CCBH, OVR, and Pittsburgh Public Schools.
- Dinner is on Us: We know you’re busy. We provide a hot, catered meal at every meeting so you don't have to worry about cooking.
- Childcare/Inclusion: Children are always welcome! We strive to make our meetings accessible for the whole family.

Why Join a Support Group?
Research shows that Black and minority families often face a 3-year delay between their first concern and an actual autism diagnosis. Our group is designed to close that gap. By joining us, you gain:
- Early Red-Flag Knowledge: Learn what to look for and how to push for an evaluation.
- Mental Health Support: We emphasize self-care. You cannot advocate for your child if your own tank is empty.
- Resource Sharing: Get the "real story" on local providers, from which dentists are sensory-friendly to which schools have the best support classrooms.
