Awareness & Unity Walk

Autism Awareness & Unity Walk

The Awareness & Unity Walk is our most powerful day of the year. It is more than just a walk; it is a declaration of presence and a celebration of the vibrant neurodiverse families that make up the heart of Pittsburgh. We gather to break the stigma, demand better resources, and show our children that an entire city stands behind them.

Why We Walk

In urban and minority communities, autism is often diagnosed later, and resources are harder to access. We walk to shine a light on these disparities and to build a "Unity" that ensures no family has to navigate this journey in the shadows. This event brings together families, service providers, and local leaders to foster a culture of true inclusion.

Event Highlights:

  • The Unity Route: A family-friendly walk through the community, accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.
  • Resource Fair: Meet with dozens of local Pittsburgh providers who specialize in autism support, from early intervention to adult transition.
  • Family Fun Zone: Enjoy sensory-friendly activities, music, and food trucks.
  • Empowerment Speakers: Hear from self-advocates and community leaders who are paving the way for autism rights in Pennsylvania.

Get Involved

This event thrives on community participation. Whether you want to lead a team, volunteer your time, or sponsor a water station, there is a place for you here.

  • Start a Team: Rally your friends, family, and coworkers to walk in honor of your loved one.
  • Volunteer: We need help with registration, route guiding, and setting up the Resource Fair.
  • Sponsorship: Local businesses can support the mission while gaining visibility among hundreds of Pittsburgh families.
